These products are protected by regulation at approximately 19 European Countries.<\/p><p>According to some European agricultural source, these schemes identify and protect the names of quality agricultural products and foods as:<\/p><ul><li>PDO (Protected Designation of Origin) for products with a strong link to the defined geographical area where they are produced <\/li><li>PGI (Protected Geographical Indication) for agricultural products and foods linked to a geographical area where at least one production step has taken place <\/li><li>Traditional Specialities Guaranteed (TSG) emphasise traditional composition and mode of production of products (proven usage on the domestic market for at least 30 years).<\/li><\/ul><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>One of the trademarks of the PDO is the law protects their production methods \u2013 mainly recipe, source of ingredients, the process and the unique location where the product is traditionally produced.<\/p><p>An example of a famous PDO is Parmesan Cheese. According to the Italian (Denominazione di Origine Protetta (DOP), Parmesan cheese and Parmigiano-Reggiano are the same cheese.<\/p><p>This cheese must be purchased from this region (Parmigiano-Reggiano). Many sources report that Parmesan is the English and American translation of the Italian word Parmigiano-Reggiano. There is also evidence that in the 17th to 19th centuries Parmigiano-Reggiano was called Parmesan in Italy and France.<\/p><p>In the case of Parmesan, and most cheeses, that rennet is procured from the one of the four stomachs of a calf. This stomach\u2019s enzyme is so intrinsic to the production of Parmesan that it cannot legally be called Parmesan unless it contains cows milk, salt and calf rennet. (Metro, 2018).<\/p><p>According to the Vegetarian Society of UK, some British Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) and Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) cheeses are not always suitable for vegetarians. They include Beacon Fell Traditional Lancashire Cheese, Dorset Blue, Dovedale Blue, Orkney Scottish Island Cheddar, Single Gloucester, Staffordshire cheese, Swaledale cheese, Swaledale ewes cheese, Traditional Ayrshire Dunlop, Traditional Welsh Caerphilly and Yorkshire Wensleydale.<\/p><p>Some of the similarity protected in the United States is the certification mark law. A product such as the Idaho Potato Commission&#8217;s &#8220;Idaho&#8221; and &#8220;Grown in Idaho&#8221; are registered trademarks for potatoes. In Turkey, some of the product listed in PDO, PGI are Antep Baklava, Aydin Fig, Aydin Chestnut and Malatya Apricot.<\/p><p>Concerning Yildiz Holding\u2019s Consumer Food Sensitivities Standards (CFSS), the PDO scheme helps to identify production methods that may or not align with the principles of CFSS.
